Piano Music Books

Piano Music Books Available

Frequently I’m asked where people can purchase good piano music books.  That’s an “it depends” kind of answer because there are so many variables out there, and there are so many kinds of piano music books out there too.

To answer the question, you need to know what your are looking for, or in other words, what are your expectations.  For example, if you are classically trained, then a better piano book for that level of player are the fully scored classic ones with a lot of content.  More songs for your music dollars.

However, if you are not that accomplished a player, but you are looking to learn some specific songs, then you can still get by with a more basic piano book.  For example, let’s say that you are just in love with the music from Phantom of the Opera.  You will find music books for that particular musical written for all levels of piano players.

You may find an “easy chord” type of music book arrangement that is not that difficult for the left hand.  Or you may find something a little more complex, but it is almost always a lot more rewarding when you can play more complex arrangements of sheet music.

What you’ve learned so far is that purchasing a piano music book depends on what style of music you are wanting to play, but it also depends on your piano playing ability or skills as well.

If you don’t match your music books to your level of skill, you will only find that your pianist is very frustrated as they cannot play music that they so desperately want to learn.  Some music book publishers make it easy for you because they put a skill level right on the cover of their music books — for example, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, etc.

There should also be a totally different selection for children musicians.  Although, some child prodigies can play some of the most difficult and complex pieces ever written :-)

As far as price, you tend to “get what you pay for”, but that does not mean that you cannot get a bargain out there.  Piano music books follow the trends, so if there’s a brand new musical on Broadway or your favorite artist just released a CD or song that you just love, then odds are it’s going to be top dollar.

However, if you don’t mind waiting, you’ll find great deals on piano music books for musicals, albums and artists for musical pieces that came out some time ago.  If you cannot wait, you might want to check your local library to see what they have available.

Classical piano music books are always available, so you should be able to find a bargain if you do just a little bit of research.

My last tip when looking for music books, buy music that you love but in an arrangement that you can play or learn to play with some practice.

Remember — Perfect Practice Makes Perfect!
